Caracteristicas radar tps 70
It was originally designated the TPSE2. Although the antenna is a radically new design from the TPS, the radar van itself, which houses the transmitter, receiver processors, and displays is very similar to the older TPSE2. Although 5-Megawatts is almost never achieved; realistically it is approx 2. The entire system can be broken down and packed onto two M trucks for road transport and mobile air transport by planes such as the C Hercules or bigger.
The entire radar system can be "torn down" and be ready for transport in just a few hours. This varies greatly with the number of personnel, their level of training, and method of transport.
The support truck would hold some spare parts, fuel tank scamouflage netting, and other logistical items as needed.
The heat exchanger and environmental control unit ECU are normally loaded into and transported within the radar van. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Radar data processing involves the acquisition of raw and processed data from the radars, clutter filtering, track filtering, and sensor data fusion for a multi-radar version.
The TPS tactical radar provides reliability, sensitivity, and accuracy, even in the face of jamming and high-clutter conditions. The transmitted pulse is intrapulse modulated using quadrature phase-shift keying. Thus the radar can localize targets within the 6. The antenna, a flat-slotted array measuring 5. There are 36 waveguides in array with 98 slots per waveguide. A multiple beam architecture with an entire redundant channel is employed, scanning all elevations and ranges simultaneously for targets by means of six beams.
This ensures more hits per target for optimum clutter rejection and target extraction. The tracker adds target identity, heading, speed and track quality information. All systems controls are entered through a touch-sensitive plasma control terminal. Each radar is equipped with two plasma displays. One is located over the operator, with the other in the rear of the shelter for maintenance purposes. The mobile active electronically scanned array radar system is currently being developed by Northrop Grumman and was expected to reach initial operating capability in August Initial design requirements required planning for short-range air surveillance, counter-battery fire and target acquisition, and sensor networking.
The requirement also required Block 1 to allow for incremental implementation of the following blocks without equipment or software redesign.
This unique radar system was originally designed to provide tactical warning to battle group commanders of air and surface threats at an extended range allowing time for responsive engagement.
The ROTHRs in Virginia and Texas are presently in full-time use for counter-narcotics surveillance, and a third is scheduled for installation in Puerto Rico in the near future. Navy Base provided essential base support services for the person Navy station at Amchitka Island, 1, miles southwest of Anchorage in the Aleutian Chain, from Decemberuntil the base's closure in The system on Amchitka was dismantled at the end of the Cold War, but the first production system was installed in Chesapeake, Va.
Atlantic Command. A second system was installed in Texas and became operational in July This coverage is achieved using 5-toMHz radio waves that reflect from the ionosphere. ROTHR is a land-based, high-frequency HF radar which can cover a degree wedge-shaped area at ranges of to 1, nautical miles.
This extended range is achieved when transmitted HF energy is refracted by the ionosphere onto distant targets. The faint energy reflected back from these targets backscatter is detected by the radar receive antenna after returning along the refraction path. The surface of the earth and the targets in the area of interest reflect some of this energy back through the ionosphere to a separate receive site, where it is processed to generate target track information.
The High Frequency Band 3 to 30 MHz is a candidate for radar because it enables surface to surface radar to target distances well beyond the horizon. Radar to target ranges of nmi and more are typical. Use of the 10 to 60 meter wavelengths associated with HF radar requires physically large antennas.
Each monopole pair has a receiver and analog-to-digital converter attached to it. A digital beamformer forms 18 beams which are then Doppler processed to separate the moving targets from the ground clutter. Range resolution is achieved by transmitting a kHz continuous frequency-modulated waveform. A radar resolution cell on the ocean surface is therefore about 6 km in range by about 15 km in azimuth, for the frequency and range used.
Radar frequency is variable and is selected using real-time sweep frequency ionospheric soundings. The propagation path is by ionospheric refraction which provides a "mirror" but with considerable variability. This variability is not predictable on a short-term basis; in addition, target illumination is generally by multiple paths.
Tracking information thus has varying degrees of accuracy due to the changes and uncertainties of the ionosphere caused by factors such as the time of day, season, sun spot number, and other solar activity. HF radar must measure and adapt to the environment in real time, and oblique backscatter soundings are routinely taken.
